Amateur Division Categories:
Wildlife - Photograph the birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and insects of Tamarac.
Plant Life - This category would include such subjects as trees, shrubs, grasses and flowers.
Scenic - Capture the beautiful landscapes and scenic vistas of the refuge.
Nature's Abstracts - Get creative and separate yourself from the pack!
Recreation - This category would include people enjoying the recreational opportunities offered by the refuge. Examples are canoeing, hiking, fishing, wildlife observation, hunting etc.
Professional Division Categories:
Wildlife - Photograph the birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and insects of Tamarac.
Other - Would include Plant Life, Scenic, Nature’s Abstracts and Recreation
Contest Rules: (Revised Rules for 2007)
- All entries must be photographs taken at Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge. Photos should be 5” x 7” and may be black and white or color and must be printed on glossy photo paper. Photos must not be matted or framed.
- Professionals are those who derive 5% or more of their income from taking photographs.
- Please retain your negatives or discs.
- Digital photos are acceptable. Cropping is allowed but any color modifications or adding any elements not existing in the original scene will not be accepted
- Mail all entries to Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge Photo Contest, 35704 County Hwy 26, Rochert, MN 56578. For each photo the following must be included: name, address, phone number, division (amateur or professional), subject category entered, the name of the photo, location and the date when taken. An additional electronic copy is requested but not required. Copies can be emailed to tamarac@fws.gov. OR drop off entries at the Visitor Center located 9 miles north of Highway 34 at the junction of County Hwys 26 and 29. The visitor center is open 8:00 – 4:00 weekdays and 10:00 – 5:00 weekends.
- All entries must be received by August 31, 2007.
- All submitted prints will become property of Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge. The photographer grants unlimited use of submitted photographs by the Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge and the Tamarac Interpretive Association. for publications, web pages, presentations and other promotional products. Credit will be given to the photographer. The photographer retains the copyright to their photos.
- Winners will be announced at Tamarac’s Annual Fall Open House September 29, 2007.
- Tamarac Interpretive Association Board Members and Refuge Staff are not eligible to enter.
Prizes will be awarded in each category for both divisions as follows:
1st Place - $25.00 Cash
2nd Place - $15.00 Gift Certificate to the Tamarac Gift Shop.
3rd Place - Ribbon and Certificate of Merit.
An overall Grand Champion will be chosen and will receive $75.00 cash. Manager’s Choice and Editor’s Choice will receive gifts valued at $20.00.
