Take the Duck Stamp Challenge
Families receive a challenge card and make discoveries about ducks and the duck stamp through various activity stations. After completing the challenges, don’t forget to collect your prize at one of the welcome tents before you leave!
Photography & Wood Carving
2016 Tamarac Photo Contest entries will be on display. Vote for your favorite! Meet the Detroit Lakes Photography Group. Duck carving artist Red Spadgenske will also be at work creating one of his wildlife works.
Refuge Tours
Join the refuge staff and volunteers for a behind the scenes excursion of Tamarac’s wildlife and wild places. Jump on a bus for a 90 minute guided tour featuring conservation successes over the years. You’ll also visit unique historical sites. You can reserve your spot on a bus when you arrive at the event. An early bird tour will depart at 9:00 am, two more will depart at 11:00 am and 1:00 pm. Buses depart from the cabin site.
Historic Cabins
Step back in time and learn about wildlife populations of years ago. Staff and volunteers from the Becker County Historical Society will share information about early settlers and showcase old stamps
Take A Hike!
Hike the Duck Stamp Trail to a scenic marsh overlook. This walk is approximately 30 minutes and begins near the welcome tent. Or take the new Bear Paw Trail through the woods for a 0.8 hike to/from the Visitor Center. These are self-guided trails that traverse on uneven ground and gentle slopes.
Location:
Activities will take place at the visitor center, discovery center and a historic cabin site just 1,000 feet east of Visitor Center on County Hwy 26. Primary event parking will be available in the field at the cabin site across from the Tamarac Maintenance Shop. Watch for the blue flag banners. Be sure to stop by the Visitor Center for a sample of wild rice soup, duck identification challenge and more. Parking is also available at the center.
