2010 Amateur Photo Contest

The categories are:

Wildlife - Photograph the birds, mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and insects of Tamarac.

Plant Life - This category would include such subjects as trees, shrubs, grasses and flowers.

Scenic - Capture the beautiful landscapes and scenic vistas of the refuge.

Nature's Abstracts - Get creative and separate yourself from the pack!

Recreation - This category would include people enjoying the recreational opportunities offered by the refuge. Examples are canoeing, hiking, fishing, wildlife observation, hunting etc.

Contest Rules:

1. All entries must be photographs taken at Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge within the last 2 years. Up to five entries with no more than 2 per category per person may be submitted. Photos should be 5” x 7” and may be black and white or color and must be printed on glossy photo paper, unframed. Quality printed home photos must be cut to the 5” x 7” dimensions. Judging is based on these prints.
2. The contest is open to amateurs; those who derive less than 5% of their income from taking photographs.
3. Photos must not have any digitally added elements or effects not existing in the original scene, including text or imprinted dates.
4. A completed entry form must accompany submitted photos. Original photo files must be submitted by the contest deadline on a CD or emailed as an attachment to photocontest@tamaracfriends.org. If you need assistance in providing photo files, please let us know. In addition to contact information, the entry form will contain space to record the subject category entered, the name of the photo, location and date taken. The photo itself must be labeled with the photographer’s name, subject category and name of photo. Drop off the completed entry forms and photos at the Tamarac NWR Visitor Center or mail to:  Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge Photo Contest, 35704 County Hwy 26, Rochert, MN 56578.
5. All entries must be received by September 10, 2010.
6. All submitted prints will become property of Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge. The photographer grants unlimited use of submitted photographs by the Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge and the Tamarac Interpretive Association for publications, web pages, presentations and other promotional products. Credit will be given to the photographer. The photographer retains the copyright to their photos.
7. Winners will be announced October 16 during National Wildlife Refuge Week at the Washington Square Mall in Detroit Lakes.

Prizes for each category:

     1st Place - $25.00 Cash
     2nd Place - $15.00 Gift Certificate to Tamarac Wildlife Gifts and Bookstore.
     3rd Place - $10.00 Gift Certificate to Tamarac Wildlife Gifts and Bookstore

Also awarded in 2007:

     Grand Prize - $75 cash
     Manager's Choice - $25.00 Gift Certificate to Tamarac Wildlife Gifts and
          Bookstore.  Chosen by Tamarac NWR Refuge Manager
     Editor's Choice - $25.00 Gift Certificate to Tamarac Wildlife Gifts and Bookstore
          Chosen by TIA newsletter coordinator/webmaster
     Honorable Mention - $10.00 Gift Certificate to Tamarac Gift Shop
          Photos of particular merit that did not win in other categories
          chosen by photo contest committee co-chairs.
