Auto Tour Stop #8: Rolling Stone . The scenic ridges, lakes and marshes of Tamarac Refuge were formed thousands of years ago by huge glaciers. An ancient traveler with the last ice sheet can be seen on your left (next photo), looking out of place in the forest. Such boulders were most commonly broken up by the relentless ice, becoming part of the soil on which all wildlife ultimately depends.
