Summer Programs and Activities
Come out and enjoy the refuge. Go for a hike, take a tour, special presentation or move. There’s something for everyone at Tamarac.
Blackbird Auto Tour: In search of wildlife? Take a drive on this five mile interpretive route following the edges of lakes, marshes and meadows. Pick up a brochure at the visitor center or at an information kiosk.
Old Indian Hiking Trail: Follow in the footsteps of the Ojibwe people and experience the beauty of the maple basswood forest on this 2 mile loop trail.
Guided Refuge Tours: Guided refuge tours will be offered every Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to noon, June through August, and on select Saturdays. Search for wildlife and learn about the cultural and natural history of Tamarac.
Tamarac: Its Life and Legends: 11 minute film presentation shown upon request daily. No group is too small.
Sunday Movies: Wildlife films will be shown most Sundays at 2:00 p.m., June 3 through September.
All Programs and tours will meet at the visitor center located 9 miles north of Hwy 34 at the junction of county highways 26 & 29. Visitor Center and Tamarac Bookshop hours: 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. Monday to Friday and 10:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. weekdays May 20 - October 15.
