FWS releases 2018 draft Hunt Plan – open comment period

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service released a draft Hunt Plan and Environmental Assessment (EA) for Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge on July 30, 2018.  Public Comment Period Open until August 31, 2018.  Public involvement is vital to making the Hunt Plan a meaningful document that addresses the needs of wildlife and the needs of citizens who care about the refuge.

2018 Hunt Plan highlights:
–  increase the total huntable area for small game, big game, and furbearers by 160 acres and reduce the total huntable acres for migratory birds by 414 acres.
– allow expanded (new) hunting of migratory birds (mourning dove, American crow, sora and Virginia rail), small game (wild turkey), and furbearers (raccoon, red fox, striped skunk, bobcat)

Two public meetings will be held where staff will be available to answer questions and take comments.

Written comments can be mailed to Tamarac Refuge, Attention: Hunt Plan Comment, 35704 County Hwy 26, Rochert, MN 56578. They can also be submitted via email to: tamarac@fws.gov  – please specify “Hunt Plan Comment” in the subject line. Comments can also be delivered to the Tamarac Visitor Center.
