Tamarac NWF Facilities Closed During Government Shutdown

Due to the lapse in federal funding, all National Wildlife Refuges and Wetland Management Districts including Tamarac National Wildlife Refuge are closed as part of the Government Shutdown.   This means the Visitor Center and Discovery Center are closed. There will be no programs or services.  All employees have been furloughed (sent home with no pay). During this time employees are not allowed to access email, voicemail, or the office.

Please note that visitors can still access trails for snowshoeing, cross-country skiing and fishing accesses remain open. However, there will be no snow removal or maintenance.  The restroom at Pine Lake & Chippewa will be open but no services.  Law Enforcement will continue to work and regulations enforced.  Visitors are advised to use caution if choosing to enter units of the National Wildlife Refuge System, as most FWS personnel will not be available for the duration of the shutdown.  Law enforcement personnel will remain on duty to provide emergency services and protect government property.  However, any entry onto Refuge System property during this period of federal government shutdown is at the visitor’s sole risk.”
